An Annual Family Festival at Beech Mountain, NC

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where do I go after I arrive at Beech Mountain?: When you arrive at the town of Beech Mountain (on Hwy. 184 N/Beech Mountain Parkway) follow the signs for parking at the Beech Mountain Resort (1007 Beech Mountain Parkway).
  • What does the timeslot/session on my ticket mean? Visitors may arrive at the ticket table at any time during the time/session shown on the ticket. While you don't want to be late, you don't have to arrive at the beginning of the timeslot. Example: for the time session from 10:00AM-12:00PM, you may arrive any time between 10:00AM and 12:00PM. This will be your loading time for your trip by bus or ski lift ride to OZ. It is much better to stagger loading times.
  • Do I pay extra for transportation to the Oz site? Transportation to Oz via shuttle is included in your ticket price; you may choose to pay $5 for a lift ride to Oz, but note that the lift ride is only available for people 36" or taller.
  • Can I hold my baby on my lap or in a carrier on the ski lift? No- only people who can sit independently and are 36" or taller can be on the ski lift.
  • Where do I get my ticket? After parking, proceed to the white check-in tents. You will receive your wristband (color-coded) for your session.  Ticket check-in tables are arranged alphabetically by last name of the person who purchased the ticket.
  • Can I bring my non-ambulatory family member? The Oz property has uneven paths, ramps and stairs and therefore is not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Late afternoon sessions work better for folks needing to take their time walking, and small "umbrella"-type strollers or backpacks work best for infants and toddlers.
  • What will the weather be like? The weather on Beech Mountain can be cold and blustery, so please be prepared by dressing in layers and wearing comfy shoes. Bring a jacket and an umbrella, just in case. We've had snow, ice, rain and wind as well as calm, warm sunny days for this event in the past...be prepared for anything.
  • Can I dress as a character? Absolutely!! Just make sure you are dressed in a way that allows you to stay warm if the weather turns cold or blustery.
  • How do I get in line for the tour through Dorothy's house? When your shuttle or ski lift drops your group off at OZ, one person from the group needs to take a ticket from the dispenser at the entrance to Oz. This ticket corresponds to the time your group will be allowed to enter Dorothy's house. An electronic monitor will be placed near the food vendors and another will be in the yard at Dorothy's house. This ticket/system will allow your group to shop, picnic, visit the museum, etc. until your ticket and appropriate time is called.
  • Can I buy food and Oz-themed memorabilia at Oz? Bring extra money as food treats and treasures are for sale. Our face painters are among the best and there is additional charge for painting and props too.
  • Will food and bathrooms be available while I wait for transport to Oz? Yes. There will be bathrooms and food, snack and drink vendors in the Beech Mountain Resort village, adjacent to the parking area.
  • May I take photos? Yes. As so many people want to take photos, please be respectful of others. We ask that guests and characters stand back, off the paths, and make room for others to pass on by. A full cast of characters will be near the end of the yellow brick road for family photos as well.
  • Do I need to buy a ticket for my infant? Children 2 years of age and under are admitted free and do not require a ticket.
  • May I bring my dog? No. Pets are not allowed at Oz.
  • Can I arrive early before my loading session time? Yes, you can come early and check in to receive your wrist band for loading and shop with the vendors in the village.

We're looking forward to your visit to Oz and we very much appreciate your helping to make this event fun and smooth flowing.
